#7 Diabetes – (79,535 deaths per year)

#9 Kidney Disease – (49,959 deaths per year)

This is a list of the leading causes of death in the United States in 2017. They are the most serious health issues we face today because they are contributing to 3/4 of the total deaths in the United States.

These are not infectious diseases caused by pathogens that we are exposed to. These are considered lifestyle diseases that happen as a result of a combination of controllable and uncontrollable risk factors.

Public Health Campaign

You will be creating a Public Health Campaign to educate your classmates on one of the above diseases. The objective is to help your peers understand what the disease is and ways to prevent the disease by identifying unhealthy risk factors.

In order to educate your classmates on one of the lifestyle diseases it's important for you to understand the nature of the disease.

Directions:
1. You are to research information on the criteria listed below. You will do this by watching videos that educate you on the above 7 lifestyle diseases.

2. You are to use a teacher provided checklist to evaluate each video in order to choose the ones that best cover as many of the 5 criteria as possible.

3. You will need to choose 3 different educational videos (1 video for 3 different diseases on the list). You will get graded on all three videos based on how well they cover the criteria listed below. Teacher will then decide which 1 disease you will be responsible for during the remainder of the project. Videos should be no longer than 5 minutes.

4. You will need to create a Google Docs document to share with me. This document will list the 3 diseases you found videos for AND you will need to include the URL (web) address for each video. It should look like this...
"Name of Disease"

*These 3 videos will be due at the beginning of class on Tuesday, November 13 and Wednesday, November 14, depending on when you have health. We will be using these videos during this class time so they must be completed in a Google Document and shared with me prior to class.

4. You will be assigned to a disease group to share and discuss 1 of your 3 videos. Within each group, you will share your individual videos with each other and then decide which video is the best educational video to share with the class. You will base this decision 1st on how well the video covers the criteria and 2nd which one is the easiest to follow and most interesting. This video should educate others on your disease and explain how it affects the body. This group process will be done on Thursday, November 15 and Friday, November 16. By the end of class you will have needed to make a group decision and share with me in Google Docs the name of the disease and the URL. It should look like this...
"Name of Disease"

5. On Monday, November 19 & Tuesday, November 20 each group will show their video to the class.
