Fun and Fitness Fun and Fitness: "Live Like Luke",  In honor of Luke Tyrrell- Days events include:   *Zumba (3 Hour Zumba-a-thon with multiple instructors) *Games and Raffles! *$10 donation is encouraged... Putting the STEAM in Art Putting the STEAM in Art: STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. This means learning and using the idea that science and technology are interpreted through engineering and social interaction, language, physical movement, music and fine arts, all based in elements of mathematics.  Mr. Hallett's homebase students have been engaging in STEAM activities to develop skills which are fundamental to STEAM education.
Upcoming Presentation: The Harmful Effect of Vaping Upcoming Presentation: The Harmful Effect of Vaping: On Monday January 28, Dr. Maja Gray, Medical Director of the Emergency Department at Samaritan Medical Center, will be speaking to the middle school students and staff about the impact of e-cigarettes and marijuana. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in 2018, about 5% of middle school students use e-cigarettes. This number is increasing every year. Here is a link from the CDC titled Know the Risks,E-Cigarettes and Young People. There is a wonderful resource for parents and much more!
SpartanPride Club SpartanPride Club: Spartan Pride club meets to work on spreading kindness in the Middle School. This club includes students in grades 6-8. New students are welcome to join at any time. During the holiday season students created decorations for our cafeteria. They also made cards for adults they wanted to recognize for doing good things.  
6th Grade Snowman Project 6th Grade Snowman Project: Students in 6th grade this year have been participating in "Fun Fridays".  In December, the focus was on the joy of giving.  Each 6th grade student created a snowman which included painting the boards and decorating it in their own unique way.  ELA classes created beautiful hand written cards of thanks that were delivered to O'D Greene's for the donation of the lumber.  Students wrapped their gift and gave it to someone special. A big thank you to Mr. Purvis is deserved for cutting all of the boards, too!
Holiday Signing Holiday Signing: Mrs. Worden's students have been practicing Sign Language with Mrs. Charlebois. They have found a great deal of reward and success with this form of communication.  The students picked two Christmas songs, "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and "Jingle Bell Rock," to sign for their parents and special guests. They practiced the month of December and performed on December 21. 
Focus on Fitness Focus on Fitness: Our middle school forum health and wellness theme continued in December with a focus on fitness.  Our physical education teacher, Mrs. Williams, lead the demonstration with the help of staff from Star Spangled Fitness in Watertown.  Students learned proper squatting techniques to avoid lower back injuries and engaged in discussion about the importance of staying physically active and maintiaing a healthy lifestyle.  Staff and students were all chellenged to complete knee bends, push-ups and burpees, too.  The next middle school forum will be a special forum on the hazards of vaping to be held January 28.

Cherrydale Fundraiser Money Booth Cherrydale Fundraiser Money Booth:     Our Cherrydale fundraiser top earners won a fuill minute in the money booth! Each winner was able to keep whatever they could catch in that one minute. Their classmates and teachers were able to cheer them on. Each student won a nice little chunck of cash as a reward for themselves.   
SJCSD Smart Schools Preliminary Investment Plan Public Notice SJCSD Smart Schools Preliminary Investment Plan Public Notice: The South Jefferson Central School District Board of Education will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 6:00 pm, at the District Office board room, 13180 NYS Rt. 11, Adams Center, NY, to receive public comments regarding the district’s 2nd phase of the Smart Schools Investment Plan. This plan was Board approved at its meeting on March 7, 2018 and is available on the district's website. The Smart Schools Bond Act (SSBA) was authorized by Governor Cuomo in the 2014-2015 NYS budget.  Please find the SJCSD Smart Schools Preliminary Investment Plan (SSIP) and related documents below.  This preliminary plan was approved by the SJCSD BOE January 25, 2017.
