South Jefferson Central School District is committed to maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all students and staff. To strengthen our commitment to school safety and youth mental health, our district partners with Sandy Hook Promise, a national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing school violence, bullying, and self-harm before it occurs.
Through evidence-based prevention programs, Sandy Hook Promise equips our students, staff, and families with the tools to recognize warning signs, foster an inclusive culture, and safely report safety concerns.
Say Something Anonymous Reporting System (SSARS)Taught to students in grades 6-12, the Say Something program trains youth to recognize warning signs and signals of individuals who may be at risk of hurting themselves or others. It teaches students to take those signs seriously and report them immediately—either to a trusted adult or through a 24/7 anonymous reporting system.
How the Anonymous Reporting System Works
The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It provides students, parents, and community members with a secure, confidential way to voice safety concerns without fear of retaliation.
The 3-Step Process:
1 Recognize Warning Signs: Identify concerning actions, verbal threats, or concerning social media posts.
2 Act Immediately: Take all safety concerns seriously and don't wait to see if things improve on their own.
3 Say Something: Submit an anonymous tip via the app, website, or hotline, or speak directly to a trusted adult at school.How to Submit an Anonymous Tip
If you see something concerning or suspect a student needs help, you can submit an anonymous report at any time through three easy methods:
• Mobile App: Download the free "Say Something" app (available on iOS and Android).
• Website: Visit www.saysomething.net.
• Phone Hotline: Call 1-844-5-SAYNOW (1-844-572-9669).
Emergency Disclaimer: The Say Something system is for safety concerns and early interventions. In the event of an immediate, life-threatening emergency, always call 911 first.
What Should Be Reported?
You can submit tips regarding any behavior or situation that threatens student safety or well-being. Examples include:
• Threats of school violence or weapon possession
• Suicide threats, self-harm, or severe depression
• Bullying, cyberbullying, or harassment
• Physical, verbal, or sexual abuse
• Drug or alcohol abuse
• Social isolation or sudden, drastic changes in behavior
• Concerning posts, threats, or rumors on social media
What Happens After a Tip Is Submitted?
1 24/7 Crisis Center Review: Every tip goes directly to the Sandy Hook Promise National Crisis Center, staffed by trained crisis counselors.
2 Triage & Evaluation: Counselors vet the tip, gather details, and route the information to designated school officials and/or local law enforcement (depending on severity).
3 Intervention & Support: Our district response team steps in to provide support, mental health intervention, or safety measures as needed. -
South Jefferson Central School District is excited to announce the implementation of the Raptor Visitor Management System. This state-of-the-art system enhances school safety by providing a fast and efficient way to check in visitors to our schools.
How does Raptor work?
When visitors arrive at our school, they will be asked to present a valid government-issued ID. Raptor will instantly scan the ID, checking it against national criminal databases. This rapid screening process helps to identify any potential safety concerns before visitors enter our buildings.
